What's in a Name?

Posted on March 27, 2015 by Gibbs Smith

Hello, I’m Professor Hawkins, and I’ve been nominated to teach all of you about classic literature. I am very busy in my life as a scholarly bird, what with all the teaching, research, and writing. But because understanding the classics is so important I’m taking time away from my own pursuits to give you details and “tweet” from time to time. Besides, I understand this is for the little ones, and I’ve always had a soft spot for small chicks.

I was named after Jim Hawkins, the main character in Treasure Island. It’s a name I’m proud of, since Jim is a fine young man, especially for a human. He’s full of a sense of adventure and takes things into his own hands when he sees the need. None of this sitting around and letting bad things happen—oh no! He pitches in. Which is what I’m doing for the good folks here at BabyLit.

So until next time, keep your feathers clean.

Sincerely, Professor Hawkins
